I watched the first season without knowing anything about the books. So when at the end of season 1, Daenaerys emerges from the ashes along with her dragons, that was quite something. That scene, the death of Ned Stark, the fall of the kid from the tower in the first episode, the red wedding, the purple wedding... It could have been an amazing TV show, had it not been butchered so badly in late seasons .

Seasons 1-4 were good. 5 was meh, it had its moments but overall was trash. Season 6 was utter woke capeshit dogshit garbage. Seasons 7-8 were spectacle only but by this point my expectations were already dead

I did and I agree with you. I watched season 1 to 4 without reading the books, then before season 5 I read feast of crows and dance with dragons and I felt so disappointed because they changed so many things. Season 6 even if it was not based on the books anymore I really liked it (my personal favorite) but then season 7 was meh and season 8 awful.

Because I started watching the show first in late 2014 and finished it before season 5 was released. I read that until season 4 the first 3 books had already been covered so I just read the last 2 to see how the story evolved.
