The Emily Wilson translation is a modern self-righteous women's re-translation of the Odyssey by an author whose sole purpose is to express her own misandry at every turn. Odysseus is no longer a hero, but a incompetent loser; all women in his household are innocent slaves; the Cyclops and the suitors have done no wrong. If this is the translation they are working with, it's dead on arrival already, to say nothing of Helen of Detroit.
