It is all numbers game. Make lots of friends and some will definitely help.
Secondly you need to have skill to make and maintain friends. Learn it. And they will definitely help.
The problem with family relations is that there is power imbalance. Your relative see themselves above you and take your for granted. So, they most of the time backstab.
With friends, It is you who made the relation. So, they payback.
With family relatives, you got them for free without doing anything. So, they rarely payback.
