There are some aspects of Christianity that have prevented degeneration of society for a long time, especially the enforcement of monogamy, and chastity until marriage. There are others, such as excessive modesty and submissiveness, that pose a great weakness to devout followers. I've read parts of the scripture and some of it is invaluable wisdom, some of it is plain retarded; as can be expected from an ancient religious text, especially one with such a clusterfuck of authors.
The best forms of Christianity are those in which the core morals are embraced, such as the seven deadly sins, but all the jewish superstitions in the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament values which encourage basically an ancient form of globohomo to encourage spread of the faith, are ignored and replaced with pagan practices of the native culture. This is best seen in the Eastern Orthodox, less so in the Catholic Church, and the least in liberal protestant denominations.
