It's easily the best Crash Bandicoot game after 1. It has a perfect difficulty balance, interesting levels, best bosses, and improves upon the originals in a variety of ways. Notably in how it combines gimmick levels that were their own levels in Crash 2 and 3 into sections in normal levels. This leads to more engaging levels overall. A good example of this would be a level that starts out underwater before transitioning into a platforming level within an underwater lair. You rarely see such creativity in any other Crash game.

I'm pretty sure the hatred for this game originates from shitty YouTubers trashing it and everyone copying their opinions. (Similar to Sonic Adventure 2.) This game deserves far more respect than it's received.
It's a much better game than the shitty Crash 4 furries 4 bob shat out.

I only ever played the first Crash Bandicoot. I was always more of a Spyro the dragon fan. Regardless I don't know why people take youtube critics so seriously. Seems stupid as fuck.

i love reading the wrath of cortex instruction manual.
it's just so colourful and interesting to read about the games story and characters tbh.

Videogame instruction manuals are a lost art, i've always liked the Wario Land ones

i liked the mario sunshine Manuel too, the comix zone Manual also had a comic strip which was pretty cool, same with the mgs2 and 3 manuals.

Idk either. Their criticisms are almost always easily disproven nitpicks overplayed for drama.

Oh, I loved reading that manual growing up. Mario Sunshine is such a great game.

Same. I had the official guide too which was filled with interviews and story from previous games

i read the manuals for the megadrive and gamegear sonic games on mega collection plus back in like '09 or '10.
reading those manuals, and their stories and lore with this music playing brings back serious nostalgic feels.

sweet memories...

i'm pretty disappointed that crunch never really made that many significant appearances after twoc aside from being in spin offs.
he wasn't even playable in the main series ffs!
the devs of these game probably thought crunch was copying knuckles of a bit too much tbh.
crash, coco, crunch and cortex are all kinda reminiscent of sonic, tails, knuckles and eggman respectively

No. Crash 3 was the best hands down, and I grew up with 4 and not 3.

its so fucking easy and it has less worlds than mario 64.
I don't know if easy was the right term. It's less balanced.
The main game to beat the game is easy as shit, then the final world (pianta village) + the volcano level is some of the hardest fucking shit in the world. The bonus levels were horrible, fuck that lily pad level.

Blue coin hunting was gay.

Super Mario 64 felt way larger than Sunshine, like there was more to explore - something magical about what secrets this castle might hide. And the challenge was more balanced. The game started off sort of easy and it got gradually more difficult, with the final bowser being a challenge.

its been a long while since i last played it, but mario jumps so fucking high, like hes on the moon.
corona mountain and the lily pad level, i agree with and i fucking hate that pachinko level.
i never beat it when i was a kid, and i couldn't beat it a few years ago as an adult.

and pianta village was hard fucking shit?
srsly, no it wasn't, it was challenging, but not hard, i beat all 8 mission on it when i was like 8 ffs!

there were two missions mandatory to beat the game, one where Shadow Mario steals your flood and you have to navigate climbing underneath the village (as the village gets flooded with lava goop), the other one was the pianta throwing one. Those two were hard as a kid.

I beat the game as a kid.

If we're talking about Gamecube Mario games, Luigi's Mansion > Mario Sunshine.
Sorry not sorry, Luigi's Mansion was so much fun to explore and the final boss was amazing.

the lava goop level wasn't even hard, but it was pretty tricky..
yeah, the secret levels were pretty tough without fludd, the chuckster level was also a pain in the ass, especially if you redo to get the red coins on a timer.

I still like Sunshine. The Stephen King Shining Level (loved that reference) was my favorite part.

This might be very controversial, but I thought Sunshine was miles better than Galaxy. Of the 3D Trilogy (besides Odyssey which I haven't played), the games got worse with Mario 64 being the best of them.

that shining reference was great, it was really subtle, random for a mario game, but subtle.
i can't really comment on sunshine being better than galaxy, i got only played the first few minutes of galaxy at a friends place and never played it again.
i hate the wii, fucking horrible console, i swear the SNES was the last great nintendo console.
the others after were either mediocre like the N64 and gamecube, or bad like the wii and DS.

The problem with the N64 is that besides the Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario 64, Star Fox and Banjo Kazooie, the Gamecube just had better versions of all the N64 games. F-Zero, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, etc. plus the Gamecube got Metroid Prime, 3D Sonic games, along with the new trend of releasing classic games on the Gamecube like Sonic Mega Collection and Megaman Collection.

I still like the N64 and Gamecube more than the SNES, only because the SNES had a bad habit of releasing one great game in a franchise and then never releasing any sequels.
We got one Mario game, one Metroid game, one Zelda game, one F-Zero game...and that's a wrap. The SNES had way more third-party support than the N64 did, but the Gamecube kicked the crap out of the Super Nintendo's third party support. And the Genesis versions of these third party games didn't have lag or slow down times.

I also grew up with the 3d games more and thought they were better. Mario 64 > Mario World to me.

I'm biased too because I was always more of a Sega guy. I would rather be on an island with a Sega Dreamcast than a Nintendo 64. The Sega Saturn was also better than the N64, but only in Japan (US releases on the Saturn were very limited due to bad sales; but you can import Saturn games and play them on American systems really easily).

Crash 3 is too easy and the gimmick levels are shit. Out of the originals 1 is better.

Mario 64 was better tbh
We disagree on almost everything. I think 64 is a rather mediocre game that's aged poorly. Sunshine imo has far more interesting missions and levels. Nothing really stands out in 64.

The missions in sunshine are if better quality than the ones in 64. Almost every single mission outside of the redpill ones is unique and changes up the level in a meaningful way. In 64 only the first two worlds attempt this. Sunshine also has more unique worlds than 64. Much of 64's worlds are just generic themes. Volcano, ice, snow, etc, etc... Sunshine has a haunted hotel/ casino, theme park, construction site, ancient mountain with hidden tunnels, and more. There maybe less worlds, but there's far more care put into each of them.

Odyssey is a mediocre game that people only like for its graphics and being new. Barely anyone talks about Odyssey anymore. It was a flavor of the week.

The GameCube is peak Nintendo. Play Pikmin and F Zero GX.

I agree with you. N64 was outclassed by GameCube in almost every capacity.

As for the SNES I think Mario World was a massive downgrade from 3. Less interesting environmental themes, less challenge, less creativity. 3 is a much better game.

The whole fucking franchise makes me want to vomit I am completely unable to comprehend what the appeal of this ugly mundane game is.

yeah, that whole volcano, ice and snow motif in platformers is pretty overplayed.
seeing hotels, casinos, theme parks and construction sites as levels in a mario game feels like a breath of fresh air.
its also interesting to see a mario-like spin on something your more likely to see irl than a snow mountain.
thats pretty much the big appeal of the mother/earthbound games.
The GameCube is peak Nintendo. Play Pikmin and F Zero GX.

the N64 mogs the gamecube with third party support.
not many companies really bothered to make any exclusive GC games, unlike the N64.
sure, many people know say that rareware games like goldeneye haven't aged well, i can't comment because i've never played the game.
but the very thought controlling an fps with the N64s horrible controller design sounds headache inducting tbh.
i liked pikmin tbh, and i played f zero gx when i was 13, but never beat it, i'd rather see a new f-zero than another mario kart.
but it would be pretty cool to see a nintendo all-star kart racer.
but knowing nintendo and like with smash, it'll just be choc full of fire emblem characters because sakurai is a massive fanfag for that franchise that tries to be the berserk of gaming or some shit.

this was back when capcom, konami and square made exclusive games for that system, many of them are regarded as the best of all time.
shame nintendo decided to stick with cartridges and not cds for the N64 like the retards they are, which made capcom, konami and square ditch them for the saturn and ps1.

Eh, personally I think the quality of third party games is better on GameCube. Resident Evil, on phantasy star online, monkey ball, Soulcaliber. GameCube got a lot of titles N64 missed out on due to cartridge limitations. Rareware was more of a second party company than a third party company.

Snes was definitely Nintendo's peak in terms of third party support. Going with cartridges was Nintendo's first major mistake.

first major mistake?
have you ever heard of the virtual boy?

and that mistake would go on to badly fuck them in the ass because at the time, cds were viewed as the future and it was cheaper and easier for devs to burn their games on to.
many companies were leaving cartridges behind in favour for cds, same with sega and sony, while nintendo and atari stuck with cartridges.
i heard that apparently, nintendo were paranoid about people pirating their games, which is why they stuck with cartridges during the N64 era.
even though they could have easily placed anit-piracy shit in their games like many PS1 titles did.

because of nintendos dumb choice, the n64 got very little, if any games from capcom, konami, square or other devs that gave them exclusive titles during the nes and snes days.
and this trend would continue from back then and now, where the best games on a nintendo system would be the ones made by nintendo themselves, while it would recieve very little third party support.

They repeated the same mistake on GameCube with mini disks. Imagine how successful both consoles would be if they used DVDs and CDs respectively.

when i was younger, i was pretty supprised to see how large regular dvds/cds were compaired to the gc cds.
nintendo would go on to use actual dvds/cds for their games... for the wii.
evolution is a slow, tedious process, and everybody thinks japs are clever ffs! :feelshaha:

It has a perfect difficulty balance
It's too easy
interesting levels
Generic locations that we have seen a thousand times before.

The levels are just long, sparse corridors with stretches of nothing.
best bosses
Not saying much in comparison to the previous games
and improves upon the originals in a variety of ways
It literally just copies crash 3 but worse
Notably in how it combines gimmick levels that were their own levels in Crash 2 and 3 into sections in normal levels.
You forget that this game also has levels which are 100% dedicated to some random shitty gimmick vehicle that controls like shit
A good example of this would be a level that starts out underwater before transitioning into a platforming level within an underwater lair
You mean the shitty submarine which just makes you giant target, turns like a tank and your only weapon is a shitty pellet gun?
It's a much better game than the shitty Crash 4 furries 4 bob shat out.
t. found crash 4 too hard

Tbf piracy can genuinely destroy sales. An estimated one million plus people played Galaxy 2 via piracy. The PSP was obliterated by piracy to the point where third party companies stopped making games for it. Nintendo was just dumb in choosing to combat piracy via disks instead of system hardware.

Vehicles and gimmicks are such a lazy way to make a sequel .

Instead of improve the core mechanics and mastering the fundamentals, just add vehicles for more heckin content

i remember hearing about that on an episode of dykg, probably why theres no galaxy 3.

It's too easy
It's harder than both 2 and 3. It's nothing close to 1 in terms of difficulty but it's definitely an improvement over the prior games.
Generic locations that we have seen a thousand times before.
We never saw the inside of a castle in Crash Bandicoot nor did we get to explore an underwater lair or a wild west level.
It literally just copies crash 3 but worse

No, it's far better. The levels are more challenging, thematically unique, and the gimmick levels are better because more of them are combined with normal levels.

Crash 4 isn't hard unless you're completing it. The level themes are boring and the gimmicks are milked. There's nothing memorable about it. Meanwhile in Crash Wrath of Cortex almost all the levels are memorable.

It was only building upon what Warped and Cortex Strikes back did. The ball levels were fun.

Nah there's no Galaxy 3 because Nintendo was convinced people were too retarded to understand Galaxy so they dumbed down 3d Mario to try to reach the sales numbers of 2d Mario.

Yeah and those games were lesser quality than 1.

The ball levels were fine but everything else sucked and was a shitty copy cat of 3, which isn't even the best game to copy

britbongs are dirty, stinky, lazy, disgusting creatures, their a sickness on europe and a bad influence.

I love that game, it's easily my favorite of the entire franchise.

The whole fucking franchise makes me want to vomit I am completely unable to comprehend what the appeal of this ugly mundane game is.

Yeah there was something really trashy about the aesthetic of Crash Bandicoot, the characters are all designed like crack addicts living in trailer parks.

I think this was done in the first game to make them stand out yet still be colorful from the lush beautiful environments. Crash Bandicoot 1 had groundbreaking graphics, it looks more detailed and better models than Mario 64 but came out the same year (although Mario 64 had massive exploratory worlds).

As for the SNES I think Mario World was a massive downgrade from 3. Less interesting environmental themes, less challenge, less creativity. 3 is a much better game.
Mario World was way larger in scope though and was more of an adventure, hence the name "Mario World" - it's a large world with a lot to explore in. And while Mario World is lacking in diverse themes, individual levels are often unique enough to be a theme in of themselves (for example, the underwater ghost level).

I think the graphics were def. an upgrade, but I would agree that Mario Allstars 3 > World.

Crash 3 is too easy and the gimmick levels are shit. Out of the originals 1 is better.
Not a chance. 2 I can see (despite it being repetitive and the jetpack levels being garbage). One being better? Absolutely not.
I can see the gimmick levels being annoying, fine. But I didn't think they were intrusive.

Hard disagree. Besides Hotel Delfino, there is one theme in Mario Sunshine - a tropical resort, with slight variations on this unifying theme. I would argue it's a great change of pace from the past too, but it's not as fun to me as exploring volcanos, ancient pyramids, snowy worlds with a giant snowman, a castle in the sky which you fly carpets to get to, etc. The bosses in Sunshine, while sometimes very unique like the Wiggler, were very repeated and overrused. You fight that diarrhea plant monster like 10 times, and Petey Pirahnna twice who is just a different version of the diarrhea plant.

Plus the music is better imo. While Sunshine's boss music was excellent, you can't beat the classic whistling and poppy upbeat songs of 64.

I find it boring.

It's a different experience as a kid, the Mansion is so much larger and part of the thrill was seeing what was next.

They were garbage. 3's so piss easy that they don't do anything but trim down the slim amount of platforming there already was.

Goldeneye was revolutionary for the time but it aged like absolute dogshit, Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 are easily 10x better shooters than Goldeneye ever was, and those are not even that great of shooters (Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 4 were better multiplayer experiences).

I agree here. The Gamecube benefitted from Sega becoming Third Party. Plus Konami, Capcom, and Rareware before being bought by Microsoft.

You may find the Sonic games overrated / Chris Chan tier, but that was a game changer for the Gamecube, esp. the Sonic Adventure series and Heroes.
