[Controversial] I don't think Zelda Ocarina of Time is that great anymore

I used to be really into this game. The Lore. The Nostalgia. The everything. But one day I said to myself... 'What if the game was only the Dungeons?' This was a glass shatter moment in my head. It made me realise that soo much of what makes the game "Good" is the reprieve, from those boring ass dungons I honestly don't even think about whenever I think about OoT.

reprieve
/rɪˈpriːv/

verb
verb: reprieve; 3rd person present: reprieves; past tense: reprieved; past participle: reprieved; gerund or present participle: reprieving
  1. cancel or postpone the punishment

I have no nostalgia for zeldas as i have never played them outside of crappy ubislop Botw and ultra boring and too claustrophobic Majora's Mask. Maybe i should try playing Twilight Princess as it seems like only title that still looks playable from the gameplays and screenshots, it also has darker vibe which i like. Ocarina looks like Dark souls but without any content or difficulty to entertain you. :feelskek:

Most likely because it has gotten drawn out and exhausted. Largely normified as well, but oh well, it's all good and it does deserve to mainstream (since it reward well for the people who work hard on that game). It was probably like one of the most fun games to play in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

But however, credit where credit is due, it did had an impact on gaming, and many games ended up following a similar style to it, e.g., Rachet and Clank, Jax and Dexter, ..., etc.

Nostalgia is a form of depression.

What inspired my Breakthrough was hearing about how !the Entire Fishing Area! was come up with because someone got 'Bored' designing the final Boss for the Water Temple.

It didn't age that well imho. A Link to the Past mogs it

What are some other worthwhile Zelda games? I just got a controller for my pc and I’m interested in emulating these games since I’ve never tried them.

The dungeons are boring? They're the best part of the game. What's great about Ocarina of Time is there's basically no filler in-between dungeons. Almost every Zelda afterwards has the most obnoxious filler in-between dungeons that kills replayability. The biggest complaint I have with Ocarina of Time is the same complaint I have with A Link to the Past, the dungeons don't really get considerably challenging till the end. Still, I'd consider it a great game. One of my favorites as I've played it so many times I've lost count.

OOT's dungeons have more interesting gimmicks. The best dungeons in A Link to the Past, are skull woods, turtle rock, bandits lair and ice tower. The rest are forgettable.

You should start with Ocarina. It's a good game and has great pacing. Twilight Princess has a lot of filler that will filter you if you're not already a Zelda fan

True, I just played the first levels of almost all of my childhood's video game on an emulator on my phone.

Man, instead of making me happy, it just got me even more depressed.

Don't spend too long revisiting the past. Nothing wrong with playing old 2D games if you've never played them before, but if you're trying to get back something you've lost, you might not like what you find.

It just brought back a lot of pain from the past. Nothing more.

the game aged badly, Hyrule field is a fucking empty snooze fest and all the dungeons are easy as fuck.

Yeah but when you're young Link and that Helicopter Plant flies at you. That's scary.
