It's not about liberalism or soy, it's akways Germans (and the Dutch sometimes) who have obsession with Americans and their customs, always post videos comparing themselves to Americans or showing Americans how they do American things in Germany trying to banter with them etc...

Also berlin have the reputation of being an american style hippie city and I readed on reddit some time ago that when Germans are trying to mock someone for being backward they often say something like "don't be so german" or something like that
