Are there any retro videogamers on this forum?

By retro I'm not talking using emulation, Raspberry Pi or classic sega compilation volumes on playstation. I mean owning the original videogame consoles and acquiring authentic game cartridges or gaming cds. Nothing beats the feel of playing a game as it was meant to be. The controls and calibration of holding an nintendo 64 controller in your hands as you play goldeneye 64 or indiana jones and the infernal machine.

Mark Bussler from classic game room is my hero, hence my tribute to him as a user handle and profile picture. He always reviews the originals on the console. My next purchase will be a neo geo AES cartridge based gaming system. The 16-bit sega genesis which only mimicked the sega arcade board for home release, whereas neo geo home console was a like for like rebuilt using the same arcade system board 22-bit chipset.

This meant while sega console owners had a stripped imitation of arcade games like street fighter 2 championship, neo geo had an arcade perfect rendition of parallax scrolling, color palettes and fully scaled sprites with arcade perfect joysticks.

Never was into retro consoles but that would be an awesome setup if you could have all those consoles. You are exactly right that there is nothing like playing a game like it was designed and meant to be played. I remeber playing many different games on many different consoles and pc, and whenever you play a ported version the game really suffers.

The NES is the most under-rated home console of all time.

Super Mario Bros3 , Duck Hunt, Contra (probotector), mega man 2, excite bike and teenage mutant ninja turtles.

Which game? There were about 3 Streets of Rage games on the sega genesis? I completed them all in one sitting.

I used to watch CGR back when I was little. Mark was great at reviewing games. Always been into the older stuff, not so much into the newer.

Possible doxxable material though, but yeah, I collect classic games and I've been doing it for quite a while. I don't think I've ever posted pics of some of the stuff I have on here, because I post that same stuff in Facebook groups.

Don't forget how expensive those Neo-Geo games are though. I was gonna get into AES collecting until I realized how expensive some of those games are. I have a couple complete Neo-Geo games that I got for almost $100 that are now worth 3-4x that. I don't even have a fucking console yet because it's like $1000 and it's been that way for a while. I still want a couple expensive consoles like a 3DO and a Jaguar/Jaguar CD.

I have original hardware and some original games but mostly use flash cartridges like krikzz Everdrives to play the games on the original consoles but increasingly or rather of late I’m far more into using Analogue’s FPGA consoles designed and or engineered by Kevtris to get my retro gaming sessions on with since Analogue’s consoles simply have more to offer and are built from the ground up to work with both modern and retro televisions alike.
