Actually, I've noticed that modern Christianity is a lot "softer" on women in general. It's one reason among many that I can't respect it half as much as I used to.

While I've had actual experiences of the opposite, where I was told I "didn't have a real heart-change" so any beneficial actions didn't matter. It's such cucked and snake-like logic that has strangled me many a time.
They probably didn't like you and just used the "didn't have a real heart-change" as an excuse to keep disliking you, I feel like that happens quite often.
