This sounds like fairytale bullshitting to me. In the vast majority of cases, if you feel someone is distant or grumpy with you, that simply means he doesn't like you very much, at least he doesn't like you sufficiently to make you a priority. That doesn't mean he necessarily dislikes you, or that you will stay forever a low priority to him - but let's cut out the bs here. People dislike other people. People like other people. Both happen all the time.
A better coping strategy to me is accepting that some people won't like you, no matter what you do, for factors that are often irrational and out of the control of both.
