Good-hearted people used to be strong and brutal WARRIORS and absolutely merciless towards foul spirits, the devil couldn't face them directly so he made them catch the rot and wither away slowly via inventing defeatist and "accepting" philosophies that allow darkness to thrive and make good people extremely underprivileged, Jung's ideas have this defeatist undertone and are forgiving of indecencies
