My brother has a mental disability. He is autistic with a low IQ. He was bullied relentlessly by kids in school. I went to school in a small all-white town and was bullied for being the only brown kid in my class. Looking back the schools never did shit to address the bullying in both our cases. There was no punishment for the bullies and no response to solve the problem from the school staff. All of the teachers and principals knew what was going on in all of the schools we ever went to but they never even attempted to resolve the issue.
Schools are unnatural environments that require extreme oversight to function properly. It has never been normal throughout human history to take a bunch of kids with nothing in common and place them in the exact same room and building from five years old all the way into their 20s. I don't even get why these people become teachers if they don't care about the well-being of their students. I think one of the reasons we have had lower rates of people going ER in our schools is because fewer kids have access to guns here. It's not because the Canadian school system is much better than the American system.
American schools have more alternative schooling options available like online, homeschooling, or schools for disadvantaged kids, because they have a large black and brown population. I know so many Americans who were having problems with bullying or fitting in who were transferred to an alternative school. That never happens in Canada.
