I'm incredibly new to thinking about what kind of government fits my ideals and what I want in a country. I like the idea of distributing resources and money to those who need it rather then for maximum profit, even if its at the cost of innovation, but i also like the idea of hiring people based on merit as meritocracies tend to be quite efficient, but meritocracies inherently have hierarchies and some people obviously have better odds at getting hired then other because of where they started. Since socialism is anti-hierarchy, they contradict eachother. Is their a government that might fit my ideals better? should I do more research into socialism or meritocracies? sorry if im misinformed.

The closest form of government to your ideals that exist in real life would probably be a social democracy like the Nordic model or most of western Europe, which basically have a market economy with a robust welfare state to redistribute wealth to those who need it. They are also meritocratic in a sense that anyone even from the poorest background can achieve social and economic mobility based on their merit because of the government providing everyone with affordable universal education, healthcare and housing.
