Bit of context: I am from Aus and most popular sport here is Australian Football where one of the positions is ruck where you have to be very tall as it involves tapping the ball down from above (average ruck height in pro league is like 6'8). My grandad whose in his 80's was telling me how he occasionally rucked when the main ruckman or whatever was on the bench resting when he played in his early 20's, he is like 5'9 now but was probs ~5'11 back then. He then talked about how all the midfielders which is a much shorter position are now all half a foot taller than him (midfielders theoretically shouldn't have to even be tall yet they average around 6'2-6'3 in modern game).
