If you have felt that high school was mostly an absurd waste of time, you are correct according to this new book about the broken education system in the West.

Caplan's thesis is that the school system is not a place of learning, but of signaling - signaling to future employers that you can tolerate futile work, boredom, and hierarchy.

Caplan estimates that 80% of courses in high school are completely useless, and quotes statistics that prove it. He also demonstrates that there's no evidence "school teaches you how to think".

A great read truly. You can find it off Google Store and Amazon.

School nowadays is based on the industrial revolution more than a century ago. We don't need absorbing knowledge we need developing of skills.

It does the opposite, it teaches you how to obey, and what thoughts are unacceptable. Critical thinking is actively discouraged.

schools are made for chads to develop their self worth, and incels to learn their spot

I learned how to fight in school. Fistfights is all I remember about my highschool life. I don't have most of the memories that most people associate with highschool like girls, parties, fun times with friends, etc.

That when I started training in mma, the sensei commented on how my fight instincts are better than most new people he's run into...

I felt exactly like that, I can't remember anything really useful I learned in HS. I never used anything from the STEM part because I'm not a STEM guy and all I really need from it is being able to count and the rest was just leftist programming and useless gramatical rules that I don't remember at all.

Had I put all those hours to something useful and that I have interest, I would be crazy good at it now.

Will definitely check that book, thanks. I hope there's an audiobook version.

Same. Come to think of it, our life was mostly ruined by a single culprit-- the school system.

The "school teaches you how to think" justification for this gross waste of time and energy has always enraged me, seeing how most of my comrades were such dunces...

Of course such criticisms of the school system are usually derided as the rage of sore losers. That's why it's good when a successful academic like Caplan gives credence to our resentment.

If signaling is all that counts then grinding in video games could replace grinding in high school, right?

Nope, Caplan dedicates a whole chapter to countering this idea. You don't only need to signal grinding ability, but also conformity.

Pretty much all of highschool is useless. Should just have school end after 8 years, and then basically have students apply to college after that. All the remideal courses would just be shit that is normally taught in highschool, but with an actual purpose. At the end of those 4 years, the kid should have an associates in whatever they chose to study.

Interesting. I like reading controversial publications like this from time-to-time. These authors do not fear exposing the world to our harsh reality. I'll definitely have to give this a read sometime.

Have you heard of "Loveshyness: Causes, Consequences, and Treatment" by Dr. Brian Gilmartin? I'd highly recommend it for it is a fantastic source of blackpilled ideology from before the age of the internet.

I hate sating this repetitive senyence but this is truly a high IQ thread. The education system just provides a social environment and preparing people to be workers. Studying alone is much more efficient.

I wish I learned how to fight in school. I still have a lot of pent up anger that I needed to release during those days.
