There's this guy making the rounds, Bo Burnham. It's almost suspicious how much I've been seeing him around, maybe you have too. I've never heard of him. So I decided to look him up. Apparently on top of making a movie or something, he's also a performance artist/poet or whatever. And he did this song called "I Fuck Sluts."
Now, based on my cursory look into this Bo Burnham guy, immediately I'm intrigued. Because why, in this "Damn the Patriarchy, men are bastards" era we live in, would a guy like Bo Burnham not have been called out about this? He's got a song called "I Fuck Sluts," and they let him, a DUDE, make a movie about a girl in 8th grade. A personal movie about the personal struggles of girlhood in 8th grade. And then go talk about it in the court of the ultra-righteous Seth Meyers. And everyone's eating it up. Do people not know about this song?
So I read the lyrics. And the interpretations. And long song short, it's a song about a guy who says all of this stuff about, well, fucking sluts. And all the many stripes and flavors of slut there are in the world. And initially you're supposed to be like "Oh wow, how offensive, what a misogynist this guy is." But later in the song it's revealed that he only says these things because a girl broke his heart. And he's lashing out because he's broken on the inside. The takeaway from the song is "He's not just a flat out asshole, he's a tragic figure. His words are wrong, but he was brought to these extreme ends because he's going through a lot right now." So it's supposed to be understandable that he would think/say/do bad things, even though deep down he's a good man. Just broken.
And so NOW I'm even more puzzled. Because I'm like "But isn't that the basic definition of an incel? A good man driven to bitterness by personal anguish and deep-seated neuroses?" But I also saw hope, I guess it was? People talk a lot of shit about incels, but if they can listen to "I Fuck Sluts" and think "Well he shouldn't be saying that stuff about sluts, but I understand how someone could be driven to those ends. He's not an asshole, he's just troubled" then there's a framework for understanding here. If they can understand this imaginary slut fucker, on paper it shouldn't be too hard to be like "You can feel for that guy? That guy is me! That guy is all of us!"
So... I went to IncelTears to raise the precedent. I figure if normies like Bo Burnham, IncelTears must like Bo Burnham. And then I can say "You like Bo Burnham, do you? Well can we talk about the sluts, though?" My case was with Norman society as a whole, but I figured if I can reach IncelTears that would be the sign I needed that the incel plight could actually be understood. I made a thread. And it didn't go through, obviously, because IncelTears is curated by pissy babies like every other curated sub.
This is the kinda shit I'm talkin' about. This here is refusal to listen or learn. IncelTears, and by extension society, says "We don't tolerate incels. BUT WE DON'T CONDONE THE BLANKET HATRED OF VIRGINS OR THE ROMANTICALLY UNSUCCESSFUL!!! And we understand when the romantically unsuccessful feel lovelorn. And we definitely understand when they feel depressed. And we understand that the depression results in a bitter and twisted worldview. We understand that you can only kick a man so many times before he changes. But no incels." And I'm like "That's an incel! What you've described, and claim to be tolerant of, that is an incel." But they refuse to accept that because these people "identify" as incel. They're angry at a word. That's all this is. If their thinking is "Don't call yourself an incel, they're racist misogynists, but you can be everything that defines an incel and we'll understand your pain, just don't CALL yourself an incel," they're just angry at the word "incel."
Any of the spies and journalists and web crawlers who come upon this, if I'm wrong, you know where I stay. Please take me up on this. Prove me wrong. Maybe I misunderstood you and you actually aren't understanding of heartbreak like I think you are. I just want some consistency. I see all this sympathy for the troubled. Incels are troubled. Troubled like the "I Fuck Sluts" guy. Why don't you see our troubles? Why are we just assholes to you?
