"Blinded by nostalgia" First off I played older games recently (Under the last 5 years) So how can I be blinded by nostalgia? It's as absurd as saying if you think King Kong 1933 is better than the shitty remakes (Which it is) You are "Blinded by nostalgia" If we applied this logic to any other form of entertainment it would fall apart easily.

Being blinded by it is rough. I remember being fully cucked by it when I was a teen, it really crippled my social life.

Played Deus Ex 1, NOLF, Alien vs Predator 2 (seriously playing for the first time), Cod 1, Max Payne 2, Hidden & Dangerous 2 for the first time when i was adult and all in the past 3-6 years. It's not nostalgia it's the brilliancy of those PC based games, none of them would be allowed to be created today.
I can say the same thing about some PS1 games like Parasite Eve 1 or Koudelka or Omega Boost or Gungage or Vargrant Story. There are still some games that don't hold up like old Mech warrior games (broken beyond repair), Midtown Madness 1/2 (also broken) or Mafia 1 (too much driving on huge ass city which is a reverse complain of Total Overdose) and a lot of early 3d games that look and play like shit, so it's not like all old games are always better.

Games today care more for story than gameplay or art style. Just look at Soyny interactive movies or Red snore redemption 2. These games sell themselves on the fact that they are a... "Cinematic masterpiece"

Modern games hate having to learn new mechanics or control schemes. Everything must be homogenized or else it's bad.

There are still some games that don't hold up like old Mech warrior games (broken beyond repair), Midtown Madness 1/2 (also broken) or Mafia 1 (too much driving on huge ass city which is a reverse complain of Total Overdose) and a lot of early 3d games that look and play like shit, so it's not like all old games are always better.

Don't forget System Shock 2 (Unfinished level design of the last few area), both Quake 2 DLC (Terrible enemy placement), and Wolfenstein 3D (Ugly, horrible level design and confusing navigation).

Real, the original doom still holds up to this day as a really fun first person shooter also the level editing giving countless ideas you can do. Most modern games don't even have a level editor, then gamers get mad as to why these newer titles are so shit it's mainly because the devs are doing literally everything and not giving the fans any sort of tools e.g like developing maps, weapons etc. They'll say some soy shit like MUH COPYRIGHT, in reality they need to pump out more sequels and don't want people staying on one game for too long. The by-gone era of ID software with John Carmack at the helm he literally didn't care that people were making levels using his games if anything he condoned it.

As a zoomer i have ZERO nostalgia for most classics like Deus Ex, VTMB, Metro 2033, MW, NV, DOOM, and all the PS2 JRPGs I later ended up playing. They're just objectively good and better than the slop that comes out these days.
