maybe it's because most fiction and mythology is ultimately cope and escapism, so being the hero means that you're an escapist figure who values imaginary stories over reality

whereas villains can be more anchored to the real world, since they don't have as much stake in the escapist plotline

In a nutshell

Heroes: tall, good looking, received nothing but positive reinforcement (often), cant imagine whats its like to get treated like shit

Villains: ugly, short, were often bullied and ostracized their whole life, which makes them question the world and lets them see the brutal reality
