If they drop the facade that she was somehow coerced into being with him, and that she's with him by her own volition, then that implies two things:

b) adult women have autonomy, and are responsible for their actions, which puts them in a position of power (however small it may be); making it harder to excuse their actions or frame them as victims. It's in womens' best interest, as a collective, to maintain the facade that they have little power, little autonomy (even as adults) so that they can play the victim card and extract as many resources as possible from society.
