I loved Griffith's impassioned oration on the beauty and sublimity of dreams and their correspondence to life-affirmation. Guts was a hollow shell until he stumbled upon Griffith and his mercenaries

Interesting take, since Guts was a wondering merc with no major life goals before Griffith got ahold of him. Griffith believed he was destined for greatness since receiving the egg, even if it looked like a regular amulet. Another great argument for the sacrifice is that his men already gave him permission to die at his command (for his dreams ultimately). What they didn't know is that they could die at his command outside of the battlefield as well.

Casca was his destiny but she came along with Griffith as well. It's a fucked up universe because she was strongly clinging on to Griffith and met him way before Guts got to her.
