If you were asked what is (Number) squared, you'd be like. Oh yeah sure I'll just times that by itself. N * N. Simple

I know what Square root is. It's obscenely more difficult compared to its counterpart.

Just memorize and be logical, pretty much. If you already know that let's say 4 x 4 is 16, then you might remember that 16 is 4 x4. Nowadays we have calculators luckily and can look up those insane numbers without having to torture our brains.

I started coming up with my own method this morning.

So far what I've got is.

I round off. If somebody asked me the square root of 123, I'd pick numbers closest to it that have a whole number square root. For eg, 121 and 144 are closest to it and are squares of 11 and 12. So the answer is possibly something like 11.1 ..
