JFL been reading this 1979 manga series called Cybele Henshuubu lately - any Japanese-readers out there?

I can't read any of the Japanese so I'm skimming to get a rough idea.
I'm up to the 6th volume which was published at the end of 1980


It seems like there is a mass of culture out there in Japan which has not seen English translation, it's kind of amazing.

Aside from the Engrish which I do grok, I am wondering if any forum members here read Japanese and might have a better idea of what is going on.

I can translate the uninteresting bits. The Japanese on the diagonal strip on the top-right says "pearl pink Christmas" in Japanese. The text on the second panel simply says "I" (first-person singular pronoun).

Okay, so I applied some elbow grease and the text on the last two panels combined says "I am the little match girl"

the text on the topmost panel says something along the lines of "tonight is enjoyable Christmas Eve"

Imagine all the good stuff that is never released in the west and that we miss out. Not talking about anime and manga which is easy to find fansubs even for obscure stuff, more like videogames, music or older movies.

Even obscure or old anime and manga often don't have fansubs / fan translations.

I can read that panel at least. I spent 2 years learning Japanese but now suffer from anhedonia so much I hardly ever read manga or anything.

I would learn japanese, but it's such a soy language plus it's annoying to learn. it also has no realworld application unlike chinese.

Yeah I figured out what story is was a tribute from the subsequent pages where the matches were drawn in more detail.
