Gaming BeamNG drive, where to download and is it safe?

So me not having a life outside of wagie wagie and working out, I really want to play a game like BeamNG drive where you can sit back, relax, turn your mind off for a couple of hours. Beamng drive seems like the perfect option

Is it safe? Cause I've heard rumours that it's apparently not safe to download (somehow).

if it's on steam it probably is safe but i never played it i don't really understand the concept (i like realistic driving but i really don't get the concept of this one).
