MY 38TH YEAR (1877/78)
The weather was very hot when on my way from Ningbo to Hangzhou, and the boat was too small for the number of passengers lying on deck, among them being young women. At night, when all were asleep, I felt someone touching my body. I woke up and saw a girl beside me taking her clothes off - offering her naked body to me. I dared not speak and promptly got up, sitting cross-legged, repeating a mantra. She dared not move after that.
