I've been reading this book called " Le peau de chagrin" by Balzac. I've found a blackpill in the first chapter. I'm not going to translate it, but it basically says that many men pine away because they do not have a friend or a woman to console them. This is the original excerpt in French: "Combien de jeunes talents confinés dans une masarde s'étiolent et périssent faute d'un ami, faute d'une femme consolatrice, au sein d'un million d'êtres, en présence d'une foule lassée d'or et qui s'ennuie."

Even though he lived in the 19th century, the best he could get was a widowed woman in her 40s; but at least she was rich. If he lived today, I doubt he would even get that. Hope has long been extinguished for us poor souls who have to rough it out in the dystopia of the 21st century.
