The perpetrator, 23 year old Nasra Yussef Mohammad al-Enezi, was the first wife of the groom at this wedding. She was believe to be motivated by anger over her husband taking a second wife. While the ceremony was being conducted, the perpetrator poured petrol on a tent housing women and children and lit it ablaze. 57 people died and about 90 others were wounded in the fire. It was the deadliest civilian disaster in Kuwait in the last 40 years. The perpetrator was arrested the following day and confessed to the attack. She was convicted on 57 counts of premeditated murder and was sentenced to death. On January 25th, 2017, Nasra Yussef Mohammad al-Enezi was executed via hanging.
