I think there are situations where suicide is the best option for the community. When a pedophile who can no longer check his urges decides to blow his brains out before offending. When an incel that would otherwise go ER ropes. When a mentally ill person who cannot be treated or confined poses a risk to others.

What you do on these forums is a terrible, terrible thing. This is a place where desperate and lonely men converge. The membership is obsessed with suicide. I would say more than half are suicidal on a daily basis.

I think psychiatrists don't like to use it because that basically means "you're trapped: if you try to escape suffering by suicide, you'll suffer infinitely more after" - which is very effective but also incredibly morally problematic. With this argument you'd basically turn an unhappy suicidal man into an extremely unhappy man who feels forced to stay alive until his natural death.

It was a brilliant discovery though - repurposing metaphysically the basic instincts to avoid pain. One of man's greatest achievements.

Both incitement to suicide and incitement to mass murder are bad. But one person who wants to die killing themsleves is infinitely preferable than one person killing multiple people who don’t.

I would ban those who try to incite mass murder too. I consider it a lesser priority only because so many people say it sarcastically or ironically. There is a very, very small chance of that actually happening. In contrast, suicide is a clear and emergent threat.
