My parents are divorced and I (17F) and my younger brother (15M) live with my dad, his new fiancée (we’ll call her Brenda), and her daughter. He and Brenda started dating in March, have already broken up twice, and now she’s fully moved in and they recently became engaged.
My relationship with Brenda is pretty much non-existent. However, she’s weirdly obsessed with my brother. She regularly interrogates him about his life, friends, dating life, etc. He started locking his door during the day because she would constantly just barge in. My brother can’t hang out in the main living areas anymore because she always find an excuse to be near him. If he’s sitting in the family room, she will sit right next to him so that they’re basically touching, even though there’s a dozen other places to sit. She will randomly try to hug him and when he backs away, she’ll just laugh and say something like, “I’m a hugger, you’ll get used to it eventually.” She’s also made comments about his body and appearance that I think are inappropriate and creepy. There was one time that he was wearing basketball shorts, and she told him that he needed to put on different clothes because his shorts were showing too much (while gesturing to the crotch area). There was literally nothing showing and my brother was extremely embarrassed and self-conscious afterwards. She calls him the same pet names that she uses for her daughter, even though he’s asked her not to.
So yesterday my brother and I were talking about some plans we have with our mom, and we overheard Brenda make a snide comment about my mom to my dad. My brother got mad and shot back with his own comment, and then left the room. Awhile later, he came back and Brenda immediately followed him and started apologizing. My brother just said, “it’s fine, thanks” and tried to walk away, but she stepped in front of him and tried pulling him into a hug even as he was backing away from her. She gave him a hurt look and tried again to force him to hug her. That’s when I stepped in and told her that he’s obviously uncomfortable and doesn’t want to hug her. She got super defensive and started saying she was just being nice. I told her that this isn’t the first time that she’s ignored boundaries and needs to back off. She‘s now screaming at me and calling for my dad, saying that I was out of line and I was the one that needed to back off and mind my own business. I lost it and gave a list of things she has done that made him uncomfortable, and told her that I wouldn’t mind my own business as long as she’s being f*cking creepy. At that point, she started crying and telling my dad that I was being a bully and attacking her for no reason. My dad yelled at me and my brother before sending us to our rooms. He later told me that I was being overly dramatic and nasty for no reason, and I need to apologize to Brenda. He also wants my brother to apologize for being rude and not accepting her hug and apology. So, AITA?
