Its because the universe is moving towards a heat death - how can it be infinite if it can die?
The Universe therefore has a beginning which means it has a cause that transcends the Universe itself.

The cause would transcend the physicality of the universe which means its immaterial/non physical and infinite since infinite regression is absurd.
