I'm 36, approaching 40, it never began.

While I was never obsessed with "teen love" because of my "unique" high school experience to say the least, around your mid-20's is probably when you can expect people to really give you the side-eye if they ever find out that you are a virgin, particularly women.
By then, there is such a stigma associated with being a virgin, that you can expect people to think you are a Jesus-freak or are about to go on a killing-spree because they assume your virginity is the result of some sort of severe social maladjustment on your part. It only gets worse from then on in terms of people's hypothetical reactions, so while there are probably quite a few male virgins at that age and older, the wiser ones know to never let it be known in public for fear of the social backlash.
Also, as a final irony, that is probably when people start getting very judgemental about "performance" as they expect somebody who knows what they are doing in bed rather than some bumbling amateur who is a day late and a dollar short at this stage in the game.
