There's a fairly large minority of European-descended people who are lactose intolerant. I happen to be one of them.

And historically, the most successful cultures and societies had diets based mainly on starch, not meat or dairy. The big eastern cultures had rice, the big western cultures had wheat and barley, the big native American cultures had maize, etc.

I feel like most vegans tend to completely miss the point, at least in terms of ethical theory. Even if all humans stopped consuming animal products(which is impossible for various reasons, not least of which the fact being that you can't do so without dying in many parts of the world), the vast majority of the suffering experienced by animals is not the fault of humans, and vegans are usually attempting to solve only a part of the main problem with a backwards solution.

Taking a half measure just so you can tell yourself that the world is alright, and reality isn't as cruel as it really happens to be, is only for you to be capable of justifying both your actions and your very existence. Also from what I've seen of their communities, they're unbelievable hypocrites.

The funny thing is, vegans are never really able to explain to you how an animal would be better off continuing to live it's mostly miserable existence, or being eaten by something other than you.

The arguments that I've seen which make sense are centered around breeding animals, specifically issues with factory farming. I actually agree with them here, but like I said before, vegans for the most part miss the point.
