At least 41 women have been killed – some of them burned to death – after an outbreak of violence between gangs at a prison in Honduras. Some of the victims had been shot to death, and at least seven female inmates were being treated at a Tegucigalpa hospital for gunshot and knife wounds, employees there said.

The apparent prison riot broke out Tuesay at the Centro Femenino de Adaptacion Social, a women’s penitentiary outside the capital city Tegucigalpa, and there are fears the death toll will rise.

President Xiomara Castro said she was shocked by what she described as the “monstrous murder” of the women, which she blamed on powerful street gangs. “Solidarity with the families,” she wrote in a tweet, adding that she would respond with “drastic measures”.

Delma Ordóñez, the president of an association for prisoners’ families, told Reuters that a brawl had broken out at the prison between members of rival gangs Barrio 18 and the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).

Also, I'd love to know how this would stack up against all the "incel" murders of women put together, mfw when us scary inkwells who are the biggest terror threat to everyone and especially women killed less women over almost a decade than two female prison gangs did in a day.

Yeah, the Guardian at least went into some serious lengths to mask it, even I was unsure at moments as to what had happened and whether the prisoners killed some female visitors or what, before they finally admitted in the article that this had happened at a women's prison and it was foids killing foids.

Gang members at a women’s prison in Honduras slaughtered 46 other female inmates by spraying them with gunfire, hacking them with machetes and then locking survivors in their cells before dousing them with flammable liquid, a senior police officer has said.

“A group of armed people went to the cellblock of a rival gang, locked the doors, opened fire on those inside and apparently – this is still under investigation – used some kind of oil to set fire to them,” said Juan López Rochez, the chief of operations for the country’s national police.

As forensic teams identified more remains on Wednesday, Hondurans were also asking how members of the Barrio 18 were able to smuggle guns and machetes into the prison and move freely between cellblocks. Eighteen pistols, an assault rifle, two machine pistols and two grenades were found after the riot.
