I’m a 2003-born, so I went to HS during the era of gay ass LA influencers (Kylie Jenner, RiceGum, the Paul brothers, etc.), Souncloud rap, and hypebeast shit. Microstimulation-oriented platforms didn’t take over till the lockdown (at which point I was already halfway through my junior year), and it felt like most people were at least somewhat extroverted, as being chronically online was looked down upon.
People born 2006 and onwards grew up with anime, alt culture, the blackpill, and (to an extent) the Dissident Right all in the mainstream. Everyone is irony-poisoned and it feels like introversion and even hyperintroversion are normalized.
To someone like me, the idea of going to middle or high school in this era feels like something totally alien. The internet when I was growing up was treated like an extension of real life, while it looks like young niggas today had/have their adolescent years entirely shaped by their for you page. It’s just crazy.
Adding to all this is that my own cohort of zoomers feels like a dying breed online. Especially in these “chronically online” spaces like the incelosphere. I guess it’s cause most of my peers have stabilized post-lockdown, formed adult social circles, and moved on, while I fell way behind, so I’m forced into the proximity of brainrotted teens. Fucking brutal
