In 1968, Czechoslovakia liberalized its Communist political system under Alexander Dubcek and the country entered an era of free speech and market reforms, all of which were widely popular. Then the USSR invaded to curb the reforms, despite the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia never intending to part ways from the Warsaw Pact or even the Soviet sphere of influence.

Like I said before, those reforms were overwhelmingly popular and the Soviet invasion massively unpopular and met with unanimous disdain. So why wasn't there armed resistance? Because most Czechoslovaks lived comfortable middle-class lives. It's for the exact same reason as to why there's not going to be a mass rebellion against the status quo. Because who is willing to give up their comfortable lives for the sake of an ideal? For them, things are fine as they are.
