I was not stuck with an aide to serve as a "minder" on school grounds at all times, unlike high school, and I was able to study what I wanted to study. You do have the popular and not-so-popular kids in college like in high school, but the less popular kids were mostly ignored but nobody would harass you.

I had a lot more freedom than I ever did in high school, and I thought that getting my Master's in histology would have helped me have a stable career in biotech as a research scientist.

I had no idea that many STEM fields had been hollowed out like they have been by contract and gig work as I found out the hard way after I graduated.
