It seems to me that the divide between left and right has become the most substantial than it has been in decades. There have been calls on both sides to silence the other, and in places like Germany, it looks like this rhetoric could actually come to pass, with the monitoring (and potential ban in the future) of the AFD party (Germany’s right-wing party), which has been gaining popularity and is currently the second most popular party. This is not a specifically German phenomenon, mind you—reactionary movements have been gaining traction all throughout the West. And with the current state of the world (Nu Jeet war causing a mass influx of refugees, an increasingly bad economy, men dropping out of society, racial tensions escalating, etc., etc.), I can only see this trend accelerating.
I can't tell if the world is actually starting to shift in a meaningful way or if it just feels that way since I'm paying more attention to the news now, but with everything that's happening, we seem to be reaching a boiling point. But I'd like to hear your perspectives on the matter.
