There's this, WOW is still alive. Final Fantasy is still running. But they're in the elitist zone and to be honest
OSRS went full fag when they had that in game gay pride thing they banned people for being against it.
PSO2 got a NA release recently and have a spinoff where your account is connected is coming. However it's not much of a mmo, more of a multiplayer action game. Only in the lobby do you see lots of players interacting.
TERA is fucking dead, they even had to swap the NA publisher, EU publisher sucks, and the JP publisher isn't looking so well.
Black Desert Online went full jew.
MMOs are a dying race, costs to make them are silly high, and the userbase is always expecting constant updates. Either graphical or content wise.
When you factor in cases where people are now expecting F2P options for mmos, and that the min amount you should pay is $10-$15 for a subscription, it really doesn't seem like a viable game market. Especially now that $15 nowadays is worth a hell of a lot less than it did 20 years ago, almost 2/3rds less.
Gacha and ingame shops have helped fund mmos.
But at the end of the day it's now cheaper to just shit out a game with limited multiplayer functionality, and then let the community go manage themselves with forums of their own or discord.
