People born early, eg. in January, are typically amongst the oldest in their school years, so they go through their early years with more of a developmental advantage (they are disposed to be stronger, taller, smarter than their younger peers on average), so on average, they receive more praise and become more confident as they grow up. The inverse is true for those born later in the year. Of course, these are just very mild correlations, and someone born in January can be utter genetic trash and grow up to be repressed and insecure, or vice versa.
