Are Madagascar people black Malaysians?

Just watched this about the president of Madagascar being overthrown by a riot of young people.

As an anglosphere whitey I don't know the first thing about Madagascar. I assumed that the people there would be Africans....

But the dodgy president who had to skip the country looks like a Malaysian except he's brown... the journalist doing a live cross on the street looks like a Malaysian except she's brown..
Most of the young people rioters look like black or brown Malaysians. Some of the CAPSAT soldiers look like Africans but I guess they could be mercenaries?

I realize the entire Indian ocean is a thriving trade world that doesn't really involve whitey, and brown people know how to travel and do international trade without needing whitey to be involved. I just know next to nothing about this world... Are Madagascar people the descendents of Malaysians who bred with Africans? Or are they just ex-pat Malaysians who got a tan from being closer to the ozone hole?
