Are gaming laptops really as bad as the desktop nerds say? Or is it heavily exaggerated? Comment your thoughts.

I wouldn’t know tbh :feelsjuice:

Console gamer? Me too. But I wish to own a gaming desktop/laptop.
I do play some games on my computer but they’re not very demanding when it comes to hardware. Most of them are older.

yeah they become shit after 3 years

But in general if ur getting your first one, it's a really good choice for a starter in pc gaming

Plus, if you're new to PC gaming, a gaming laptop allows you to get the feel of what it's like without u spending too much money on an entire setup.

Not to mention startout storage is decently good.

ive had mine for a year now, it still performs as well as when i first got it.

Gaming laptops are hated not because of their specs but because of their price. You can build a PC with better specs for the same price.

they can be pricy for what you get but they still can get decent performance

No, they're just a waste of money, limit you with upgrades, and are less reliable. Unless you're on the go most of the time, I don't recommend them.

Considering the current RAM prices, I'd say no.

I would actually prefer a gaming laptop over gaming PC since it can be used in many more locations and more portable

Why would you ever want a laptop over a desktop anyway, the only selling point of a laptop is that it is more portable than a desktop, but being an incel we barely leave the house anyway so what would even be the point.

Depends on the person, i find it comfy to get under a blanket with my laptop in my bed. I dont really like sitting in a chair for long hours

Not only they're more expensive but also unreliable

You get less performance for what you pay. They're functional, you've just gotta make sure the cooling fans/vents don't get blocked with dust and debris

IF you let them get choked up with dust and run at 110c, then yeah no shit :feelskek:

Sounds like if you enjoy going to many places and want to bring something to keep you entertained, laptop isn't a bad idea. If not, better off getting a regular pc.

Msi gaming laptops are good quality

they tend to run very hot which drastically shortens their lifespans, down to like 3 years

plus they depreciate rapidly and generally cost more for the same performance

pros: they look cool and take up less space

Yes, they are incredibly bulky and lack processing power.

The part i hate the most about having one is that i can't upgrade the CPU and the GPU. I am stuck with it forever.

@Zer0/∞ @Diddy
They run hot, not upgradable, and break easily with shit hinges and plastic construction. Also they are annoying to clean and maintain as you have to open the laptop up which can be frustrating if they decide to have multiple different screws to carefully dust everything with the battery removed.

I play counter strike on mine and I hate how it keeps getting in the way of my mouse

You need to spend $1.5k+ for a portable gaming laptop that isn’t a plastic piece of crap that weighs 7-8lbs.

They don’t have the durability of a desktop: their ports can break more easily, their keycaps can fall off, their hinges can become brittle and snap, and once they do break, it’s not worth the money to repair it, becoming a piece of junk.

yes cuz of chargable crap

I have one and it's decent. But I don't game much

IMO its only worth it if you travel a lot. Otherwise PC is hands down superior

Then I'll happily save and wait. Mean time STALKER 2 gets like 20-30 FPS on my steam deck.

enjoy your overheating brick

Components will degrade and die out relatively frequent in a gaming laptop due to heat damage. Components are also difficult/expensive to replace. Laptops allow you a lot less autonomy over replacements and upgrades compared to a desktop.

The portability benefit of the laptop is also largely negated by the fact that the battery capacity will go to shit within a few months of use.

I'd recommend a desktop. A half-decent desktop is usually cheaper in the long term, especially if you build it yourself.

It's bad for the price of gaming laptop you can build a desktop that out perform it only reason to buy it if you really need something portable

Gaming laptop cost 3x more then desktop what the hell sounds like you want a prebuilt Pc and you have to do ton of reasrch chase if you buy a laptop with heating problems it's over

The replies are exaggerating how bad it is tbh

Bullshit. Find me a desktop PC + monitor + keyboard + mouse + aura for this price

tbh it depends on your price range. >$900 go with the gaming laptop and anything more go with the desktop. Budget gaming laptops BTFO budget or any reasonable setup you could build in performance. After that desktop PCs are more bang for your buck

Yes i have been using a gaming laptop and a Lenovo go when I want to lay in bed a play its worth it

They are extremely nigger, at least if you get a cheap one. This is my niggerstory.

I bought a base spec Lenovo Ideapad Y510p in 2013 (I think it was about $940-$1100) and it was the biggest piece of nigger shit to ever grace my niggerhands (The Alienware 14 was my second pick and I honestly should have stuck with it. Those had no problems compared to this piece of shit IIRC). The main buying point was the Ultrabay bullshit, where they never upgraded the Ultrabay GPU past the GT 755M. You could have SLI'd it which was cool.

I had to RMA it twice because of various internal issues and the final one that stuck (that lasted until 2017) just straight overheated and died during a long Just Cause 3 gaming session. Even before then it was starting to struggle on a lot of games I would throw at it and would throttle really badly.

Not to brag but I also lived in a big-ish house so I couldn't wire Ethernet through and was forced to use Wi-Fi, and it would cut out every 5 minutes even if you were next to the router because the Wi-Fi card was also defective. Even the shitty HP laptop (that was a $500 discount laptop from fucking Office Max or some shit that I got in 2009) I had before then had a much better Wi-Fi card that would never cut out at all.

Gaming laptops are not worth it unless you get some stupid high end model with like liquid cooling or some shit. I don't even think the newest models come with swappable MXM GPUs. And I also think those MXM GPUs are/were only in ultra high end gaming laptops that are like $2k+.

I'm never buying a gaming laptop again unless I get a stupidly good job so I could buy a good specced one, and would probably go for an Alienware or a Sager.

I have two other gaming laptops that are older that I simply bought for legacy Windows and novelty reasons.
