So I typically function at a pretty high level in most social venues but in certain circumstances, such as family gatherings and particularly weddings, I tend to experience extreme and debilitating social inhibition which renders me virtually autistic for purposes of interpersonal engagement. My chad brother is getting married in two weeks and I have the vastly unfortunate honor of having been designated the best man. As such, I am expected to delivery some fatuous drivel about a future life of happiness and whatever the fuck else normies get out of marriage. I convinced my nurse practitioner to prescribe me Xanax for what I regard as situational anxiety and am wondering whether any of the comrades here have ever used it to ameliorate this sort of problem.

It's addictive so it's better to start with something milder like propranolol. It's a heart medication that lower your heart rate and stop your extremities from twitching so it can stop the symptoms of anxiety and consequently you feel calmer.

Yeah, I have a good deal of self-control and am not really concerned about the addictive properties as such. Likewise, I only received 6 tablets and they are each 5 mgs so I don't think that would be enough to create a physiological dependency. My NP recommended that I try Seroquel but I would have had to of cycled on to that and I just don't have the time for that sort of incremental process. Thanks for the response brother.

what about alcohol? it also decreases social anxiety.
when I tried xanax it made me fall asleep 20 minutes later and left my mind completely blank

Yeah, I've considered that as well but alas, I think that being drunk would really diminish my executive functioning to the point that I wouldn't be able to properly deliver the speech in accordance with the expectations that people are going to have. The dilemma with alcohol is that the more I take, the less competent I appear, whereas, the less I take, the more my anxiety will supersede every other facet of the experience and will become debilitating. I've been told my my NP that Xanax is the best "I don't give a fuck" medicine.

I use phenibut

Similar enough

Propranolol eases some symptoms of anxiety but not anxiety itself, you'll still feel anxious but with less physical symptoms

5mg is way too much to start, a quarter of a 5mg pill would be enough for you, also the addiction is not what you think, you won't crave xanax but you'll lose sleep and feel more anxious if you don't take it

My advice is to not take it, it's too strong

I really don't think that there is much of a viable alternative unfortunately. I can't do this without some sort of mood altering substance which doesn't also result in diminished capacity, which entirely rules out alcohol. Xanax is more subtle and that way I can at least appear to be sociable, engaging and otherwise not so neurodivergent that I draw unwanted attention to myself. I will heed your advice and when I take this for the first time, I will split one of the 5mg doses in half. Thanks for the advice brother.

benzos are great as long as u dont take too many of them. take 1 mg of Ativan and ull be fine

Based Ativancel
I like mixing stuff up with some Triazolam when I'm feeling antsy or can't sleep.

Don't take NPC pills. The cost always outweighs any benefit.

yea xanax sucks. Youll instantly fall asleep but if youre in public youll do something completely insane and not remember a thing. I had taken some before going to a doctors appointment and woke up the next morning with hundreds of condoms in my pocket. The only thing I remember was walking into a busy road and almost getting hit.
Wow that is like something out of a Hangover type movie. I can only hope that it effects different people in different ways which, according to my understanding of the neurophysiological composition of individual brains, it must. What size dose did you take and was this prescribed for you or did you just self medicate?

It's 0.5mg btw not 5, half is 0.25 which is better

5mg would kill you
Of course you're right; I was an order of magnitude off on the size and ratio of the dose. But yeah, thanks again for the input, I am going to try to break up one of those tablets and take half on a day when I can just sit around at home, log into Steam and fuck off playing games.

I used alprazolam for 2 weeks straight with doses like 1mg a day and ended up having a massive panic attack when I quit. It was basically rebound anxiety, some might call it withdrawal even.

The doses people are telling you to take are way too high. Taking 0.25mg is basically the same as taking 1mg, the anxiolytic effect is pretty much the same. When I took higher doses I ended up blacking out all the time. I basically remember nothing when I take higher than 2mg doses of alprazolam

If you want it to act faster then you can pop the pill under your tongue. Alprazolam tastes like ass but it works faster that way

I love alprazolam though. It gives your brain such a break from all anxiety and stress

OK this is the sort of qualitative, empirically driven feedback that I have been looking for. If you don't mind, I do have a couple of follow-up questions for you. Maybe this is self-evident in what you said but, how effectively did it reduce or nullify whatever anxiety, fear or trepidation you would have otherwise experienced, but for taking the Xanax? Also, how long did it take from the time you ingested the pill for there to be any appreciable effects, if you can recall? Finally, I only have 6 individual tablets and each one is only 1 mg, so even assuming I take them all over the course of maybe ten days or so, would that be enough to result in the sort of physiological/psychological withdrawal symptoms you experienced? Thank you for reading brother as well as for the insightful feedback.

It's like Valium, no? Basically alcohol in pill form.

Well for me it took away my social anxiety. I can very easily sleep if I take any benzo even on a low dose even if I'm anxious since it helps so well. It takes away ones inhibitions and coupled with alcohol this effect is even enhanced. If you've ever heard of stories about guys pissing on police trucks, they were probably on benzos and alcohol.

You'll feel xanax within 20 minutes of taking it. Even faster if you let it melt under your tongue.

For me it only took 13 or 14 days to get rebound anxiety. So I personally believe that its possible to get it from an even shorter period of time and with lower doses. Official data says that withdrawal effects are only possible after 2 weeks of continual use, but I don't really see a reason to believe this

That is extremely helpful. Honestly, knowing what I know now thanks to you and some of the other comrades on here who shared their own anecdotal insights, has alleviated some of the anticipatory anxiety just going into this thing. I am normally very high inhib, particularly in this type of social context where there is the expectation for highly spontaneous and unpredictable sorts of social interactions. Also, I just checked the label on the bottle and I was mistaken; each tablet is only .5 mg's and I have a total of 12 tablets. I will plan on breaking these up into .25 mg doses and hopefully that will at least lessen the probability of my blacking out or attacking armed police officers on the streets. Thanks again brother.

Reminds me of this slide from FACEandLMS' WAW 6 episode.

Say no to jew pills

Prescribed, 2 mg iirc. Blackouts and things like this are extremely common with xanax. Alcohol never made me blackout but with xanax I blackout every time.

how long did the rebound anxiety last? I came off gabapentin and my panic attacks are finally going away after 1 year.
OK maybe that was too high a dose. I've got .5 mg tablets and am planning on breaking each of them up so that the effective dose is around.25 mgs. From what appears to be the consensus opinion above, that ought to be a sufficiently low amount to not cause the kind of adverse and dangerous side-effects you were experiencing. I'm also planning on taking the first dose in a controlled environment while I'm at home and can just log on to Steam and game while being under the influence.

Maybe 2-3 days. I had some sleepless nights

Unfortunately gaba receptors heal extremely slow so if you took gabapentin for a long time then it takes time.. also the receptors won't really have time to heal if you still keep taking benzos or anything like that

0.5 is the max dose one should take, and then stop for some days..been doing it for years and nothing happens, no withdrawal, no rebound anxiety etc. Basically 1mg per week is absolutely safe.
