As of late, I have become convinced that we live in a deterministic universe. I'm not talking about just genetic determinism but complete, absolute determinism.

Every event since the big bang has cascaded into the event after it and so on. So whoever I am, whatever my actions are, are already decided.

Which is why I feel indifferent to everything these days. I am not "responsible" for my failures or my successes, they were already set up for me. I don't feel inferior to those above me in the social hierarchy nor do I feel superior to those beneath me. I didn't have to work for this life that I was given, it was given to me by a random roll of the dice.

Basically, it is what it is.

We could say that 80% of your life is determinism and that you have 20% free will

i believe in absolute determinism

Even if you believe in free will, I believe determinism is still much higher than 80%. I'd say maybe 95-99%.

Consider the things you are born with: Height, face, IQ, athleticism, muscle potential, personality (brain chemistry), country, ethnicity, gender, social/financial background of parents etc. With these many things being predetermined, I find it hard to believe we have 20% free will. 5% at most which can only be utilized by your actions but those actions are also affected by the aforementioned.

Well ofc cause and effect are real. But determinism isn't fate, you still have free will. Though you could say that the way your brain works is determined by a mix of your nature and your environment so the choices you make aren't truly free will. I would say you have a predetermined state of mind you are limited by, and some freedom to choose what to do with it, within those limits. Whether you wanna call that free will or not is semantics.

determinism is not fatalism bro. Just because you don't have free will, doesn't mean you don't have the power to change your environments. If everything is dominated by cause and effect, then there surely is a cause that will produce the effect of one changing one's environment to produce a better outcome.

example: I have drunkard friends => I get shitheaded drunk with em every weekend => One such weekend I go into a coma => I survive => I decide to cut ties and stop being an alcoholic faggot => Life gets marginally better.

What caused myself to be friends with drunkard? I can't determine it from an outsider's POV tbh. Could be proximity in school/neighborhood, trauma, what have you. You won't have resolved your issues but at least your liver and neurons will thank you.

we wuz determined to be inkwells n shiet

It’s hard to say free will is real when every single choice and decision you make is being informed by your past memories and experiences, so your always gonna make that choice 100% of the time even if it doesn’t feel that way.

You can’t decide how your brain is wired and the way your Brain is wired is responsible for at least half of your will, the other half being the people and environment you grew up in which basically decides everything about you as a person and this is again, completely out of your control

Your entire life has basically been set up and made for you not even a full day after your birth

The only reason people disagree with this is because they FEEL like they are in control but that’s an illusion and what your in control OF is something that you played no part in creating.

Man can do as he will but he cannot will as he will
