Discussion Anyone have any pets to cope with loneliness?

I've been considering getting a cat, my family has a dog but since I moved out I rarely see him.

When I lived with my parent I had a cat and he was pure copefuel. he didn't like me because I tortured him a little too much when he was a kitten, but i was also kind to him, feeding him snacks and yummy human food. He forgot about the torture though last time I've seen him. He is just happy to see me and he gets on my lap and purrs. Feels like I am loved by a creature. Can't recommend cats enough.

My Grandparents had a lot of cats, they were all pretty sweet to me, my family's dog is very nice too, cuddles a lot. Feels nice, but I'm still not sure about getting my own pet, after all I can barely love myself how would I take care of a pet.

Easy, (smart) pets nag when they get hungry / thirsty / can't shit. Cats will miau really loud so you will take care of them or you will not be able to sleep.

I barely sleep without my meds anyway, cat seems kinda fun when I think about the pros and cons, I always liked the idea of a little black cat in my studio apartment to keep me company.
