Don't have anything to do this summer so figured i might as well start working out since I stopped like 4 years ago, today is the first day, mainly just freeweights but was wondering if anyone here has had any real good success with lifting and getting muscular/lean? Basically looking for advice for things that have worked for you. For reference 21, 5'7" about 160lbs.
For me the best was full body workout, one day on one day off.
I would do the benchpress, squats, deadlift, lat pull down, bicep curls, lateral shoulder raises, tricep extension, and ab crunches.
Takes me a little over an hour if I do supersets.
This allows me to work out the same muscle 3 times a week, and gives me enough time to rest in between training again.
After working out, I would make sure to stretch all my muscles so there is no future tightness or soreness overtime.
Once or twice a week on the rest days, I will do sprints for about 10 minutes (sprint 30 second, rest 30 seconds, repeat). You can start with doing sprints for however long you can, but make sure you maintain and eventually improve.
Remember to eat enough (or slowly less if you are cutting), get enough protein, and get enough sleep.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: BE CONSISTANT.
Even if you miss one day because of some emergency, this workout plan will make sure you get 3 workouts a week.
Good luck brocel.
