For me is this. In games with character creators, i almost always make female character. Exception is in games where there is dating aspect. I never self insert myself in games or consider mc myself.

Women definitely play video games. And some definitely enjoy certain aspects of it. For example, some women I played with was very excited about some dress-up options of a game. I never told her I cared about it and few men care, I guess, so I think it's something she genuinely liked.
They might not care about or enjoy the same aspects as men, but that doesn't mean they don't like these games at all.

Many men like female chars because they are nice to look at. And while yes, a single MC often is a self-insert it doesn't have to be, especially if you play the game more than once.
