Much of the "magic" of them is gone for me and probably most of the rest of you, that I believe we all experienced in childhood during our first time playing Zelda 1 on NES, Zelda: LTTP lets say or Super Mario Brothers 3 on NES or Super Mario World on the SNES, etc, etc.
That said I did also go through a time where they pretty much no longer appealed to me to play them and I instead shifted to something that I found very satisfying and still do to a certain extent which is collecting rare and vintage games and their machines. I've got tons of "new" old Nintendo stock, a new "old stock" PC Engine, a new "old stock" Turbografx 16, etc, etc.
Also I set up one of my Alienware gaming PC's to be a HyperSpin machine which even though emulation based is still in my mind a form of collecting since you have to go around configuring and finding the the roms and emulators and making everything work as one cohesive whole.
The experience of doing that was both taxing and rewarding and also a great cope since it took my mind off my Wizardly situation for a good long time and still would I'm sure if I went hardcore at it again ie unless you're willing to fork over the dough to a dude like Chris Upchurch of Home Arcade Systems for as complete a HyperSpin system as you can (where he has already done the work for you) perhaps humanly/possibly get, you yourself could literally keep yourself busy for years adding and configuring systems to it.
Anyway I digress.
Even though its not the world's greatest Mario game ever made the New Super Mario Brothers U game that I've played extensively on my black 32GB Wii U console as well the Deluxe edition of the game on my Nintendo Switch soy boy console has gotten me back into gaming, then later the updates of Halo Reach with it being on the PC via Steam now but most recently Stardew Valley has completely reignited my interest in gaming and may become my favorite game of all time which is surprising to me as I thought NOTHING would ever top Zelda for me (heh, pun intended) but Stardew just might.
This is doubly surprising for me because in my youth/earlier years what have you, I'd consider playing a game like Stardew Valley and actually enjoying it to be akin to watching paint dry ie which is to say fun and such a game to me should be concepts as far apart as humanly possible but for whatever reason ie maybe its just old age? Stardew Valley has become my go to game and I can hardly play it enough.
I've even got the latest guide book that covers the 1.4 update ordered and on the way to me now which was just restocked by the broad that illustrates it and the dude that writes it at their site which I believe is called
https://www.fangamer.com for anyone else here that might be interested to know that they finally got the book or rather an updated version in stock since the previous now outdated edition sold out.
