I am learning web dev at the mo (web languages, wordpress, web admin, etc) and would love to find some other people who are either web devs already or who are learning just to chat about it, share thoughts/ideas/advice, etc!

Thanks all ^_^

its free?
It was back when I used it and it was already fairly big so yeah you can basically learn a whole course of a programming language for free. Pretty cool ngl.

how do u learn

I'm learning mostly from two sites called studioweb and sololearn. The former cost me £29 for the course but the latter is free.

I'm also watching lots of videos on youtube, including by the guy who owns studioweb - Stef Mischook.

It's all good stuff. I'm enjoying it and it will hopefully pay well eventually too :)

are you going to try to work in it or just learning for fun?

Mostly for work - both freelance and hopefully eventually employment. But it is fun as well and it's cool seeing my own sites develop as I learn more.

When I see a person using smiley faces I immediately become suspicious of them

;D

what language should i learn? there seems to be way too many

Well, the "web stack" is basically html, css, javascript, php and sql. You can use those to make websites, web apps and even mobile apps to some degree. Then it's good to learn things like wordpress and website administration too. It sounds like a lot but some of them are pretty easy and also it does provide some variety. It's not really particularly daunting once you just give it some time and learn from good sources.

Other popular languages are ones like Java, C#, Kotlin, C++, Swift, Python... and many others. But it really depends what you want to create and what kind of environment you want to work in. They're all used for different things and have somewhat varying levels of demand. Also some often require more formal qualifications (like Java and C#) and some often require maths (like C++ and Python).

Also (sorry to ramble on, lol) some are more difficult than others. Java and C++ are quite tricky, for example. But most of these languages are fairly similar overall.

so the webstack would be the best ones?

I mean, there's no such thing as best, because all these languages I listed and more have their own strengths and areas they are suited to. If you want a flexible and in-demand skill set then the web stack is very good though yeah :)

Fuck the bs. Get into crypto

I took a 2 semester web design class last year and basically forgot everything about HTML/CSS, too lazy to do anything with it anyways. I know a little JS and I want to learn some SQL.

Yeah I try to do it quite a bit every day to make sure it stays in my head. Eventually I think it will stay put, but at first you need to keep going over things over and over to make your mind truly remember it.

Also I'm sure you remember more than you think you do if you look over it again - that's usually how it works!
