I watched some film recently (but can't remember what) where they were like just look into the other person's eyes until you at least register their eye colour and that will set you up for a good impression. Not tried it yet myself but it sounds feasible.

I think the only way to impove your ability by making eye contact is by doing it more often. First start making eyecontact while talking with your friends. Once you are comfortable with that, start making eye contact with random people.

I mean, there's the triangle trick and looking between the eyes or a spot close but not directly in the eyes. It's never been a huge issue for me but that's some of what I've read. Also, helps if you relax I guess.
