When I was a kid i stole a green eraser and for about a week every time i heard a police siren i was scared i was going to jail. Never again after that.

I don't even live in california, but i'm really glad they passed that new law so now there will be actual consequences for people who get caught shoplifting.

I care because I've worked in retail and I know how all this stuff works. When pricing is determined, every variable you can possibly think of is accounted for, especially waste. They know a certain percentage of products will get damaged, expire, or stolen. When a product is stolen a lot, that impacts it's pricing. They have to increase the price to off-set the loss (lol if you think these billion dollar megacorps are too stupid to understand basic economics, or would just eat the loss).
Another thing they can do is keep it locked away, meaning the customer will have to hunt down an employee to unlock it. Every walmart in my area now has the supplements, deodorant, shaving razors and a bunch of other shit behind plexiglass. I sure love spending 20 minutes of my day trying to hunt down an employee who isn't busy so he can get another employee who has the key to unlock it so I can have the great honor and privilege of buying that 4 dollar antiperspirant stick and that 6 dollar bottle of melatonin.
I hope every shoplifter gets caught and has a traumatic experience in prison.

There used to be an arcade near my home with a broken pinball machine. It was quarters only and still in service. It had a hole you could reach your hand in and grab a handful of coins.

Not worth it. What can I even steal? 3 cent candy bars and unscanned gift cards? If I'm ever gonna rob anything then it's gonna be somewhere that'll get me a huge reward like a bank or something
