The average starting salary is 65k - 72k. If you don't plan on being a beta bux, and live minimally, you could hoard a shitload of cash.

It could be slightly higher. I don't think by much, however. If you live on the west coast, I believe they are in that range you provided. The cost of living is far higher in these areas ,so it balances out.

I made some irresponsible choices trying to daytrade, because I absolutely HATE having to deal with people, otherwise I would have stacked a lot of cash now (I'm early 40s) but my last job (that lasted 5yrs) I was making about 105K.
If I really wanted to push it, I could do better, but my heart is really not in it.
It's just the best career (other than being a successful daytrader, I guess) for an incel that I could think of majoring in when I was younger.
I don't have a CS degree, but a mechatronics one and essentially work as a dev doing mostly CS related stuff, at least here in Germany you can expect to start at 40-50k, a little more if you have a masters. In private companies however you can scale very well if you are good at it.

Are you talking about in dollars? Because her in USA even Humanities majors can make 40k out of college. Seems not worth it to study CS in Germany

Thankfully though I did at least buy a house that increased in value, so I was able to shelter some money that way.

100k is poverty levels on the West Coast. Average rent for a one bed room apartment is $3,200 and a sandwich costs you $20. Minimum wage is $15 a hour.
I make like $17,000 a year and live ok in a small town in a flyover state.

1) the six figure salaries are only in SF (and NY, to a slightly lesser extent).
2) the people who get $100K+ are usually employed by FAANG+Microsoft or startups funded by top tier VCs.
3) if you look at their profiles, they usually have internships from top companies or they graduated from top colleges (JFL if you believed in the "college doesn't matter" meme)
4) They're all normies - the only autists who make six figures are trust fund kids, those who got lucky from cryptoinvesting, and actuaries.
For us, the max we can hope is $50-$80K, depending on location. Still better than doing the trades, though.

This is correct. 100k is only for people that are the Chads that manage. You're basically a tool to make pretty figures and reports that Chads will take all the credit for.
Be happy with your wagecucking $40-50k like the rest of us in that field. Cope as much as possible.
